The Women’s Affairs Unit at Al-Qadisiyah Polytechnic College, in cooperation with the Department of Accounting Technologies, organized a seminar entitled “Women: The Most Prominent Victims of Online Extortion”, presented by Assistant Lecturers Samaher Sadiq Ali, Sara Basim Abd, and Saif Bassam.
The seminar covered the following topics:
- Definition and Forms of Online Extortion: Highlighting online extortion as one of the most dangerous forms of digital violence against women, explaining its methods, techniques, and how the digital space is exploited to target victims. It also examined the social and psychological factors that make women more vulnerable to such crimes, in addition to the profound psychological, ethical, and familial impacts on the victims.
- Role of Institutions and Society: Discussing the role of security and legal institutions in combating this phenomenon, reporting mechanisms, and protecting victims. The seminar also addressed the roles of families, society, and schools in promoting digital awareness and empowering women to use technology safely and responsibly.
- Practical Recommendations: The seminar concluded with practical proposals to enhance online protection, build a supportive digital culture, reduce the risks of extortion, and provide a safer digital environment for women.
