The Dean of Al-Qadisiyah Polytechnic College, Professor Dr. Zaki Mohammed Abbas Bahiyah, participated in the fifth meeting of the Council of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University for the academic year 2025–2026. The meeting was held at the Najaf Technical Institute under the chairmanship of the President of the University, Professor Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, and attended by the esteemed members of the Council.

The session commenced with a review of the key directives of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, presented during the most recent Opinion Board meeting, which emphasized the following:

  1. The necessity of enhancing scientific publishing in international databases, monitoring publication data and statistics, and working to improve the quality of rigorous scientific research, while striving to include Iraqi scientific journals in recognized global indexing databases.
  2. Supporting legally established scientific societies due to their effective role in achieving scientific development and serving sustainable development goals, and the possibility of involving them in industrial advisory councils according to specialization.
  3. The importance of adhering to regulations governing the establishment of reputable scientific journals in line with internationally adopted standards, and the Ministry’s commitment to advancing their scientific level.
  4. The necessity of completing the registration procedures for first-year students for the academic year 2025–2026 in accordance with the approved timelines and academic calendar, while taking into account the requirements of specializations covered by the Bologna system.

In another agenda item, the President of the University expressed his gratitude and appreciation to His Excellency the Minister for his leadership of the Ministry during the past years and his continuous support for Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, particularly in qualitative developments, including the establishment of the Higher Institute for Nanotechnology for Graduate Studies.

The Council also discussed several important topics, most notably commending the reconstruction campaigns taking place across the University and its formations, the need to monitor scientific research activity, strengthen communication with staff members, and reinforce institutional affiliation. In addition, the Council addressed identifying students’ needs, providing a positive university environment, and adopting initiatives that contribute to enhancing the University’s academic reputation through activating memoranda of understanding with international universities and organizing joint scientific events.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the members reviewed the items listed on the agenda, discussed the scientific, administrative, and student-related matters, and adopted the appropriate recommendations and decisions in a manner that serves the academic and administrative progress of the University and its formations.
