Al-Qadisiyah Polytechnic College organized a scientific seminar titled “Raising Awareness of the Iraqi Labor Retirement and Social Security Law No. 18 of 2023,” in collaboration with the Media Center for Civil Society Organizations, the Legal Unit, the Student Activities Unit, and the Women’s Affairs Unit. The seminar was presented by Assistant Lecturer Muhammad Ghatar, Head of the Claims and Rights Unit, Legal Advisor Muhammad Abu Hail, and Mr. Yusuf Hussein Ali.

The seminar addressed this law as one of the key pillars for protecting workers’ rights and providing them with economic security after their service period. It guarantees them retirement pensions and insurance benefits to protect them from economic and social risks, such as the inability to work due to aging or occupational injuries. The seminar also aimed to clarify the importance of social security and the regulation of the relationship between workers and employers in accordance with national legislation, promoting social justice and economic stability.

The seminar concluded with the following recommendations:

  1. Emphasizing the need to raise awareness of the Labor Retirement and Social Security Law No. (18) of 2023, especially among workers in the public and private sectors.
  2. Calling for the organization of regular workshops and seminars to inform workers of their rights and duties under the law.
  3. Urging relevant authorities to simplify administrative procedures related to registration and access to social security services.
  4. Strengthening the role of academic institutions and civil society organizations in supporting legal awareness related to social security.
  5. Emphasizing the importance of updating related legislation to align with economic and social changes, providing further protection for workers.

At the conclusion of the seminar, there was a reaffirmation of the importance of implementing these recommendations in practice, as well as continuing to organize such awareness events to strengthen workers’ rights and ensure they fully benefit from the provisions of the law.
