Al-Polytechnic College – Al-Qadisiyah at Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University hosted a scientific seminar entitled:
“Awareness of the Retirement and Social Security Law for Workers No. (18) of 2023,” organized by the Media Center for Civil Society Organizations in Iraq as part of the Social Security Awareness Campaign in the southern governorates, with the participation of the Enkidu Volunteer Team represented by its President, the legal practitioner Mohammed Abu Al-Hail.
The seminar was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Zaki Mohammed Abbas Bahiyya, Mr. Iyad Al-Miyali, Head of the Non-Governmental Organizations Department in Al-Diwaniyah Governorate, a number of faculty members, and more than fifty students of the College.
The seminar included a concise introductory presentation on the key provisions of Law No. (18) of 2023, the categories covered under its provisions, and the mechanisms for registration and benefiting from it. Emphasis was placed on its role in safeguarding workers’ rights, enhancing economic security, and promoting social stability, particularly for employees in the private sector.
The Dean of the College emphasized the importance of promoting legal awareness among students and raising their understanding of the legislation regulating the labor market, noting that knowledge of social security laws contributes to empowering young people and protecting their future rights.
On the sidelines of the seminar, a small bazaar was held to showcase several student projects, in support of youth initiatives and the promotion of entrepreneurship.
This activity forms part of the Social Security Awareness Campaign in the southern governorates, supported by the European Union and implemented with the participation and supervision of the International Labour Organization, with the aim of strengthening the culture of social security and expanding social protection coverage for workers.
