On the occasion of the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism as and When Conducive to Terrorism, the Scientific Division at the Polytechnic College – Al-Qadisiyah, one of the formations of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, under the patronage of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Zaki Mohammed Abbas Bahiya, and in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Unit and the Department of Medical Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Technologies, organized a seminar entitled: “The Impact of Extremism and Violence on the Performance of Medical Professionals.” This event was held the department’s activities aimed at raising awareness of the dangers of extremism and violence leading to terrorism and their negative repercussions on the healthcare work environment and the quality of services provided to patients.

The seminar was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Maryam Atiyah Khazal and Assistant Lecturer Mukhlid Mohammed Kadhim, who presented a scientific overview addressing the psychological, professional, and legal aspects related to extremism and violence and their impact on the performance of medical staff.

The seminar addressed several important themes, most notably: the causes and types of violence faced by medical professionals; mechanisms for addressing manifestations of extremism and violence within healthcare institutions; and clarification of the role of the law in protecting physicians and supporting healthcare personnel, as well as in promoting a safe and stable working environment.

The seminar witnessed active engagement from attendees through interventions and discussions that enriched its themes, with emphasis on the importance of continuing such awareness activities, which contribute to protecting medical personnel and strengthening their humanitarian mission in serving society.
