Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University Commemorates the Martyrs of the Speicher Massacre with a Vigil Under the Slogan “The Speicher Massacre… An Unhealed Wound”

In commemoration of the souls of the Speicher massacre martyrs, Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University organized a vigil with the participation of faculty, staff, and students from various university formations. Held under the slogan “The Speicher Massacre… An Unhealed Wound,” the event emphasized the importance of remembering these sacrifices, strengthening national memory, and rejecting terrorism and extremism.

The vigil commenced with a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Mr. Mueen Al-Rubaie, followed by the reading of Surah Al-Fatiha to honor the souls of the martyrs, who carried nothing but their dreams of a future serving their homeland.

In his speech on the occasion, the President of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, Professor Dr. Hassan Lateef Al-Zubaidi, emphasized that the Speicher massacre was not merely a mass murder, but a flagrant assault on all of humanity. He stressed the necessity of internationally classifying and recognizing it as a crime against humanity, and continuing to pursue its perpetrators, planners, contributors, and concealers, asserting that such crimes are not subject to a statute of limitations.

Al-Zubaidi added that the scale of the tragedy revealed by the victims’ data affected various Iraqi governorates, particularly the Middle Euphrates provinces, which lost a significant number of martyrs. He affirmed that true loyalty to them is not limited to honoring their memory, but lies in establishing justice, uncovering the full truth, holding those responsible accountable, and immortalizing their sacrifices in the national memory.

The vigil concluded with prayers for mercy and forgiveness for the martyrs, and for peace, security, and stability across Iraq and its people.
