“Iraqi universities and academic institutions have achieved competitive results in the 2026 Scimago Institutions Rankings, which evaluated 10,827 institutions worldwide.

The results highlighted eighty-three Iraqi universities, including Baghdad, Al-Technological, Al-Mustansiriya, Babylon, Diyala, Al-Mustaqbal, Information Technology and Communications, Mosul, Basrah, and Al-Anbar.

The Scimago ranking is based on a composite index that integrates three distinct criteria: Research Performance (50%), Innovation Outputs (30%), and Societal Impact (20%). Each primary indicator encompasses sub-indicators, such as the volume of published research, the quality of journals, citation counts, and relative impact factors. Furthermore, the ranking requires a minimum of 100 research papers published in the Scopus database within the evaluation year.”
