Dr. Hallo Al-Askari, Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, participated in a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office to deliberate on feasible measures for addressing current challenges and their impact on the educational trajectory in Iraq.

The meeting, convened at the request of the Minister of Higher Education, was attended by the Minister of Education, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister, senior officials from both ministries, the Chairman of the Board of Advisors, and the Executive Director of the Higher Committee for Education Development in Iraq. The session concluded with several key recommendations, including:

  • Establishing an operations room to maintain communication with institutional bodies and facilitate appropriate decision-making.
  • Granting the relevant Minister the authority to suspend official working hours based on evolving developments.
  • Adopting the principle of compensatory days for any emergency closures to ensure the completion of educational requirements during the summer break.
  • Urging students at the present time to maintain their commitment to regular attendance.

The participants concluded by emphasizing that the safety of students and educational staff remains a top priority. Furthermore, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Ministry of Education will continue to review the challenges facing the education sector in light of regional circumstances.
