The Department of Medical Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Techniques at Al-Qadisiyah Polytechnic College Holds a Training Course on the Impact of Massage on Muscles and Lactic Acid Removal in the Elderly

The Department of Medical Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Techniques at Al-Qadisiyah Polytechnic College—one of the formations of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University—organized a training course titled “The Effect of Massage on Muscles and the Removal of Lactic Acid Residues in the Elderly.” The lectures were delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nawfal Saleh Dakhel, Head of the Department; Lect. Dr. Hawra Allawi Luaibi; and Asst. Lect. Bushra Hamad Obaid.

The course aimed to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Provide an introduction to muscle physiology and identify age-related changes.
  2. Define lactic acid, explain its role as an energy source, demonstrate how to measure its levels in the body, and discuss methods for its elimination.
  3. Highlight the impact of massage on the bodies of the elderly and introduce appropriate techniques that contribute to improving blood circulation and reducing muscle fatigue.

The course included both scientific and practical explanations of the importance of massage in promoting muscle relaxation and assisting in the reduction of lactic acid accumulation resulting from physical exertion, thereby contributing to improving the quality of life for the elderly.

This course is part of a series of scientific activities organized by Al-Qadisiyah Polytechnic College to develop the scientific and practical skills of its students and staff, as well as to enhance health awareness within the community.
