The Women’s Affairs Unit at Al-Qadisiyah Polytechnic College, one of the formations of Middle Euphrates Technical University, in cooperation with the Forensic Evidence Department, organized an awareness seminar entitled “Obstacles Facing Women in Society and the Workplace and Strategies for Confronting Them.” The seminar was held as part of the activities of the National Strategy for Combating Violence Against Women and Girls, under the Protection and Prevention Pillar, Paragraph Five.

The seminar was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Noor Qasim Hussein and Ms. Rehab Kareem Hadi, Head of the Women’s Affairs Unit. The speakers discussed the major challenges and obstacles facing women in society and the workplace, including restrictive social traditions, violence, limited educational opportunities, the gender pay gap, and workplace harassment, as well as their negative impact on women’s participation in various fields.

The seminar also highlighted key strategies for addressing these challenges, including enhancing community awareness and education regarding women’s rights, enacting laws and policies that protect women from discrimination and violence, and promoting women’s economic and educational empowerment through training programs and support for women-led projects. In addition, the speakers emphasized the importance of cooperation between government institutions and civil society organizations to provide a supportive and safe environment for women.

Several recommendations were presented during the seminar, most notably the development of a comprehensive national plan for women’s empowerment in society and the labor market, strengthening educational and awareness programs aimed at changing negative traditional perceptions, encouraging women’s participation in political and economic sectors, and ensuring the effective implementation of laws and policies that protect women and safeguard their rights.

At the conclusion of the seminar, the presenters stressed that women’s empowerment is a shared responsibility that rests upon society and all its institutions. They emphasized that implementing the proposed strategies would strengthen women’s role and enhance their active contribution to the process of development and progress.
