{"id":49917,"date":"2026-04-25T21:42:35","date_gmt":"2026-04-25T21:42:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idi.atu.edu.iq\/?p=49917"},"modified":"2026-04-30T19:08:25","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T19:08:25","slug":"al-furat-al-awsat-technical-university-holds-its-first-international-scientific-conference-on-engineering-sciences-for-sustainable-development-esnsd2026-in-partnership-with-erbil-polytechnic-univers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/idi.atu.edu.iq\/?p=49917&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University Holds its First International Scientific Conference on Engineering Sciences for Sustainable Development (ESNSD2026) in Partnership with Erbil Polytechnic University"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Shaqlawa, Kurdistan Region<\/strong> \u2014 Under the patronage of the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research in both the Federal Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University (ATU) launched its <strong>First International Scientific Conference<\/strong>, titled <strong>&#8220;Engineering and Science for Sustainable Development Goals (ESNSD2026).&#8221;<\/strong> The event was organized under the supervision of the President of ATU, <strong>Professor Dr. Hassan Lateef Al-Zubaidi<\/strong>, and hosted at the Shaqlawa Technical College.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conference Objectives<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conference aims to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Strengthen capacity building and knowledge exchange in sustainability fields.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Highlight the latest innovations in engineering and green technology.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support applied initiatives that link scientific research to societal needs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encourage public-private partnerships to achieve genuine sustainable development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wide Local and International Participation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conference saw active involvement from ATU\u2019s constituent bodies, including the <strong>Al-Qadisiyah Polytechnic College, Najaf Engineering Technical College, and Rumaitha Technical Institute<\/strong>, in cooperation with the <strong>Shaqlawa Technical College<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event featured a global presence with participants from seven countries: <strong>Tunisia, UAE, Jordan, Iran, Sweden, the UK, and Vietnam<\/strong>. Additionally, eleven prestigious Iraqi universities participated, including the Universities of <strong>Baghdad, Mustansiriyah, Basra, Al-Qadisiyah, Thi-Qar, Mosul, Tikrit, Al-Kut University College, the University of Technology, and Middle Technical University<\/strong>, alongside the co-hosts <strong>ATU and Erbil Polytechnic University (EPU)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Opening Ceremony<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The opening was attended by <strong>Prof. Dr. Hassan Lateef Al-Zubaidi<\/strong> (President of ATU), <strong>Prof. Dr. Edrees Mohammed Tahir Harki<\/strong> (President of EPU), and representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education in the Kurdistan Region, alongside numerous researchers and academics attending both in person and virtually via live stream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his keynote speech, <strong>Dr. Al-Zubaidi<\/strong> emphasized the vital role of scientific research in societal development and civilization building. He noted that addressing the challenge of providing a sustainable and secure environment for billions\u2014amidst population growth and resource scarcity\u2014is a top priority that this conference seeks to address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He further highlighted ATU&#8217;s success in building real partnerships and its advanced rankings in international classifications, urging researchers to focus on technical and applied research that solves real-world problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Keynote Sessions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The opening session was moderated by <strong>Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Razzaq Hassan<\/strong> (ATU) and <strong>Asst. Prof. Dr. Sevan Hussein Ali<\/strong> (EPU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Dr. Abdulsamad Salahuddin (Tishk International University):<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Topic:<\/strong> &#8220;Advancing Drug Discovery using AI: Innovations, Challenges, and Future Trends.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Focus:<\/strong> The transformative role of AI in accelerating R&amp;D and reducing costs in the pharmaceutical sector, emphasizing the integration of engineering and medicine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dr. Riri Fitri Sari (Chairperson of UI GreenMetric):<\/strong><em>(Represented by the UI GreenMetric team)<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Topic:<\/strong> &#8220;Sustainability in Action: Promoting Future Campus through UI GreenMetric Indicators.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Focus:<\/strong> Evaluating university environmental performance, promoting green campus practices, and resource optimization in line with global sustainability goals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Concluding Events<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conference featured documentary films showcasing the infrastructure developments and academic milestones at both <strong>ATU<\/strong> and <strong>EPU<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To conclude the first day, <strong>Dr. Al-Zubaidi<\/strong> expressed his gratitude to the researchers and committees involved.
