In celebration of the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism as and When Conducive to Terrorism, the Scientific Division at the Polytechnic College – Al-Qadisiyah, one of the formations of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, organized an awareness seminar titled “Combating Violent Extremism Leading to Terrorism.” The seminar was held under the patronage of the College Dean, Professor Dr. Zaki Mohammed Abbas Bahiya, in collaboration with the Women’s Affairs Unit and the Department of Medical Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Technologies.
The seminar was presented by Associate Professor Dr. Maryam Atiyah Khazal and Assistant Lecturer Mukhlid Mohammed Kadhim. Several important topics were addressed, including:
- An introduction to extremism and its relation to terrorism.
- The different types of extremism.
- Methods of countering extremism.
- Extremism in Iraqi law.
The seminar aimed to raise participants’ awareness of the dangers of violent extremism and to enhance legal and social understanding of how to combat it. This contributes to spreading a culture of security and safety both within the university community and beyond.
