Professor Dr. Ahmed Hashim Yousif, Assistant Dean of the Polytechnic College – Al-Qadisiyah for Student Affairs, chaired the Master’s thesis defense committee at the Engineering Technical College – Najaf, at Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, for the researcher Tabarak Adel Hussein from the Department of Power Mechanical Engineering Technologies. The thesis was entitled:

“Study of the Performance of Using Photovoltaic Cell (TiO₂, R6G)”

The thesis aimed to improve the thermal and electrical performance of polycrystalline solar cells by utilizing nanocoatings of TiO₂ and R6G dye, and to investigate their effects both experimentally and numerically in reducing the temperature of solar cells and increasing energy conversion efficiency.

The study included numerical analyses and practical experiments to evaluate the performance of solar cells. The results showed that the maximum surface temperature of uncoated cells reached approximately 315 Kelvin, while the application of nanolayers contributed to reducing the operating temperature, indicating a noticeable improvement in the thermal performance of solar cells.

Experiments were also conducted under natural sunlight and artificial lighting conditions at a constant irradiance of 1000 W/m² and an ambient temperature of 25°C, where the electrical performance of the solar cells was evaluated using current–voltage (I–V) and power–voltage (P–V) characteristics.

The thesis concluded with several recommendations, most notably the study of other nanomaterials and the optimization of TiO₂ and R6G concentrations to achieve higher efficiency. It also recommended conducting long-term system tests under different climatic conditions, in addition to applying this technology to larger solar panel systems or PV/T systems, which would contribute to enhancing energy production and improving the efficiency of solar energy systems.
